Biography
Susan Melinda Morée is a writer and journalist and hosts NPR’s All Things Considered for KRWG Public Media.
The nonprofit New Mexico Writers (NMW) awarded her with a grant in 2023 to research a wolf’s journey across the Southwest. The result is Wolf + Mythologies, a series of poems published by Grandma Moses Press in January 2026.
She is a long-time journalist and received a grant from the Society of Environmental Journalists. She has also received national, state and regional awards. She has been the managing editor of a weekly newspaper and of a regional arts magazine and covered reproductive health and environmental issues in the Rocky Mountain West.
She studied dramatic literature at Columbia University and theatre theory and performance history in a Ph.D. program at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. She holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Brooklyn College-CUNY. Although her focus was playwriting, she turned in a 60-page collage poem for her Master’s Thesis.
The Root and the Bloom Collective commissioned Susan Melinda to write a play about water in 2018 with a grant from the Montana Arts Council. One of her plays was long-listed for the Leslie Scalapino Award for Experimental Writing and she was a finalist for a Jerome Fellowship and a Heideman Award.
Susan Melinda’s plays have appeared in venues around the U.S. She curated a theatre program
for BRIC Studio in Brooklyn. She got her start in theatre by stage managing plays for an expatriate theatre company in Prague, Czech Republic.
Her poems and fiction have been published in various literary magazines and anthologies. Her fiction was named a notable story by StorySouth’s Million Writers Award.
Susan Melinda helped catalogue the Tennessee Williams Collection at Columbia University’s Rare Book and Manuscript Library. She worked in publishing for St. Martin’s Press and Columbia University Press. She has also worked for theatre institutions including New York City Opera and Blue Man Group.
In 2022, the National Endowment for the Arts asked Susan Melinda to serve as a grant panelist.
Susan Melinda currently teaches classes in poetry and playwriting online.
She has taught writing and literature at Brooklyn College, York College, Rutgers University, Western New Mexico University, Montana Technical University and Chicago Dramatists.
